At the recent China Forum on Renewable Resources Technological Innovation held in Beijing, winners of the China Renewable Energy Society (CRES) Science and Technology Progress Award were announced. The “Industrial Park-based Multiple Biomass Energy Co-production Technology and Its Engineering Application” submitted by China National Environmental Protection Corporation (CNEPC) won the first prize of 2019 CRES Science and Technology Progress Award.

The project is a joint effort among Tianjin University, Henan Agricultural University, Beijing Helee Bio-Energy Ltd. and CNEPC which, through industry-university-research cooperation, conducted research on the technology of co-production of biogas, biodiesel and bioelectricity from biomass waste (such as kitchen waste and domestic waste) based on the industrial park. The park-based model and co-production technology can help reduce the treatment cost of biomass waste, improve the comprehensive energy efficiency, reduce and control the secondary pollutant emissions, and realize coordinated, efficient and clean utilization of a variety of biomass waste in the park.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its founding, the CRES set up the Science and Technology Progress Award to honor major achievements in scientific and technological innovation in the field of renewable energy. Submission of entries began in March 2019, and as of June a total of 99 projects were submitted for the award. After qualification examination, expert evaluation, social publicity and other procedures, 29 projects were awarded.
